E-Waste Explanation
800,000 tonnes of E-waste is disposed of in New Zealand per year. This greatly affects the environment, but why? Why should we care about E-waste? E-waste has many effects. For example; poisoning which damages the health of citizens around the world. Pollution, a challenge that the world faces everyday. Pains and sickness that not every family can afford to cure or to pay for a visit to the doctor. We should all care about the E-waste and the effect it has on the environment. What about the people it is effecting?
Lead is a type of metal poisoning that can affect humans and vertebrate around the world to how much heavy metal is in the body. The issue however is how does Lead make itself evident or where does it come from? It is a chemical placed inside of electronics devices such as computers, computers that children play on. Computers teenagers and adults use to interact with others around the world. This can trigger a negative chains of events inside the body. Why should we care? Would you like to pay money for a sickness that a relative had even though you could prevent? No one wants to writhe in agony while poison slithers through their body...right?
Illnesses come in a varied and a multitude of different forms, for instance headaches, cancer, pains and toxic smoke etc. Bills pile up leaving you to divert your attention to something that you could have helped protect yourself and others from. You wouldn't want to take care of a sick person right? So why do we export e-waste to other countries such as Guiyu or Ghana? Is it because we do not physically stand beside them and receive the sickness directly? Is it because our bodies, our blood systems are not contaminated by such revolting chemicals? We must care even though it may not happen to us but still they are humans living in our world. A world we all share.
Dirty seas. Dirty land. Dirty air. Air that others breathe in. Pollution is an issue majority of the world faces. Why encourage an issue that people are trying to bring to a halt? We can stop this if we simply just care but we live in a world where people must be provided with reason and tempted with persuasion. Dirty seas creatures live there, creatures that we consume so imagine if they all died out...leaving us to starve. Dirty land you’re eyes a burned to death because of boring view, why torture your eyes further with a horrible section of land? Keep the land green. Dirty air, I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t want to hear someone gagging due to the lack of fresh air because the air that we all breathe in has been tainted by pollution.
We should care about the effects of E-waste because it is a very important matter that we push aside. Countries are suffering because of decisions made me billions of citizens located around the world. We should care because we spend half our live preaching about how we must be a “good, green and clean person” when we can’t even stop buying products “designed for the dump.” Don’t care about posting a photo of the new iphone 6 you got on instagram just because you bought it. Think about it. Where has your previous phone gone? Has it gone to a place where they can safely dispose of it with workers qualified to do so? or has it gone to a place where the smoke, blows over villages?
